Vuzix has gone from pioneer to manufacturer of smart glasses and other HMDs (head mounted displays). It also develops the associated software to run the devices and integrate their use with smart phones and computers. I think the waveguide technology used in the Blade is the best approach for non-commercial use, but though the big bet on Atomistic and microLED looked like the right technology pairing, I cited it as very risky from the start. I was way out in front of the market in showing how the risks from that development deal had compounded, and discontinued coverage when that became official.
The company does hold many patents awarded or pending, which may
help it hang around in the presence of more powerful competitors
like Alphabet, which I still cover privately, much like Microvision
has. However, as with most GRoDT companies, dilution
is a recurring problem. Investors often fail to realize just how
hard mass manufacturing can be, and I hope that early warning in
the face of Vuzix self-promotion was of value to subscribers.
