LG Display to focus on AMOLED ?4

LG Display formally announced this morning that it plans to focus future investment on its AMOLED business, thereby avoiding the price wars taking place with LCDs.  This shouldn't surprise anyone; it should already be apparent that AMOLEDs are taking over mobile devices.  To my mind this is a non-event, and just further confirmation on the improved yields in larger hi-def panels that I've been reporting on.  The company will invest some eight and a half billion over the next two and half years.  I would still prefer to see the company cut licensing deals with other manufacturers in order to minimize risk, but so long as economies of scale are achieved, the payout will be that much sweeter without them.
